Loving God & Loving Neighbor - July 12

Come and join us for the sixth week of our Christian Education series on outreach.  The next two weeks will feature one of our partners.  On Sunday, July 12, Project Arriba will be featured.  Roman Ortiz, Executive Director and Amanda Ozer, a board member and UPC member will present.  The class starts at 9:10 am on Zoom.


Each Sunday will feature one of our significant partners and will include the following:

  • Introduction of the partner 

  • Why we support this partner and its mission.

  • What is the theological basis or background of the mission

  • How do UPC donations and volunteers help?

  • Does the partner have additional needs? 

  • Questions from the audience?


Project ARRIBA’s mission is to assist economically disadvantaged individuals in gaining the education and skills needed for occupations that pay a family-sustaining, living wage with benefits and a career path here in El Paso.  Over its life Project ARRIBA has graduated 1,471 adults into careers such as nursing, etc.


On Sunday, July 19, our partners from SPJ (Siguiendos los Pasos de Jesus) will be featured.

Lent 2023 Sermon Series Give Up Gluttony While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs arrived and hurried Haman off to the banquet that Esther had prepared. -- Esther 6:14 Do you eat to live or live to eat? This was a question I heard often while growing up. The question represents the ideological divide around the human experience of consuming food. Is eating so central and enjoyable and fulfilling that it becomes the only reason for living? Or is food just the fuel for a larger purpose of your life? This is, of course, a false dichotomy - very likely, food is both necessary and enjoyable. And if food isn't enjoyable, very likely it isn't an ideological choice.
