Loving God & Loving Neighbor - June 28
Come and join us for the fourth week of our Christian Education series on outreach. Each of the next four weeks will feature one of our partners. On Sunday, June 28, the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence will be featured. The class starts at 9:10 am on Zoom.
Each Sunday will feature one of our significant partners and will include the following:
Introduction of the partner
Why we support this partner and its mission.
What is the theological basis or background of the mission
How do UPC donations and volunteers help?
Does the partner have additional needs?
Questions from the audience?
On June 28, Flo Buchmueller and Kathy Staudt, UPC liaisons with the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence (casfv.org), will introduce a presentation from Brittany Medellin, a staff member from our UPC partner organization. Family violence against women (yes, mostly women are victim-survivors) is a huge problem in El Paso and the state. With the pandemic and loss of jobs, people stuck in their homes deal with even more violence than usual behind those closed doors. In Texas, abusers murder approximately 150 women per year in what tcfv.org calls “intimate partner violence;” Kathy predicts that the number will be greater this year. CASFV offers shelter to survivors, counseling, and the Battering Intervention & Prevention Program for abusers, among many other services.
On Sunday, July 5, our partners the Kelly Food Pantry and Jardin de Milagro will be featured.
Come learn and bring your questions!
