Loving God & Loving Neighbor - July 5


Come and join us for the fifth week of our Christian Education series on outreach.  Each of the next three weeks will feature one of our partners.  On Sunday, July 5, the Kelly Center for Hunger Relief will be featured.  Specifically, Jerry Hobson will discuss Jardin de Milagros, Kelly Center for Hunger Relief and the Kelly Fresh Start program.  The class starts at 9:10 am on Zoom.

Each Sunday will feature one of our significant partners and will include the following:

  • Introduction of the partner 

  • Why we support this partner and its mission.

  • What is the theological basis or background of the mission

  • How do UPC donations and volunteers help?

  • Does the partner have additional needs? 

  • Questions from the audience?

Kelly Center for Hunger Relief and three of its entities (Kelly Pantry, Kelly’s Fresh Start program and Jardin de Milagros) have been active in the hunger relief effort heightened by the COVID 19 pandemic. Jerry Hobson will cover each of these and how they aid our community during the current crisis.

Lent 2023 Sermon Series Give Up Gluttony While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs arrived and hurried Haman off to the banquet that Esther had prepared. -- Esther 6:14 Do you eat to live or live to eat? This was a question I heard often while growing up. The question represents the ideological divide around the human experience of consuming food. Is eating so central and enjoyable and fulfilling that it becomes the only reason for living? Or is food just the fuel for a larger purpose of your life? This is, of course, a false dichotomy - very likely, food is both necessary and enjoyable. And if food isn't enjoyable, very likely it isn't an ideological choice.
